Husky Neighborhood Move Out and Move In
The Husky Neighborhood Cleanup program, run by UW Recycling in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities and the UW Office of Regional Relations, provides free disposal of unwanted items to students moving into and out of the neighborhood north of campus. The program helps alleviate discarded waste on streets and in alleyways as students move out, and redirects reusable items on local charities.
Collection vehicles from UW Recycling, Goodwill Industries and Waste Management are stationed at a designated drop-off location during the two to four-day event to collect garbage, recyclables and donations. The event takes place twice per year: in the fall as students move in and in the spring as students move out.
Since Husky Neighborhood Cleanup began, improperly discarded waste has decreased significantly and waste practices of the residents in the area have greatly improved.
