Join the UW's Green Office program!

The Green Office Certification Program at the University of Washington is an initiative that encourages and recognizes offices on campus for adopting sustainable practices. By participating, offices can assess their current impact, implement improvements, and receive a certification of commitment to sustainability. The program promotes energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable purchasing, helping to foster a culture of sustainable responsibility across the university community.

Why join the Green Office program?

The Green Office program provides workspaces across the UW with information on ways they can operate more sustainably, while recognizing the good work they’re already doing. By joining the Green Office program, you’re helping ensure the UW remains a sustainability leader while working to help us reach our sustainability goals!

How does joining the Green Office program work?

  1. Designate a Program Representative: Select a member of your office to act as a liaison with the Sustainability office and to attend Green Office meetings.
  2. Fill out the sign-up form: Start the process by providing some simple information about your office and the representative by signing up here.
  3. Take the required trainings: There are in-depth training modules for the program representative, and shorter learning modules for all members of your team. Information will be sent to the program rep after the sign-up form is completed.
  4. Green your office: Use what you learned from the trainings in your office!
  5. Complete the certification form: Let us know your team has completed the training and learning modules to become certified.
  6. Receive certification: You will receive your certification after completing the above steps. Offices will receive a printed certificate for display in your workspace.
  7. Attend Green Office Meetings: Have your Green Representative attend twice-yearly Green Office connections to learn about innovative ways to enhance your office.
  8. Recertify every two years: Keep up with your certification by reapplying every two years.

Members of any UW office can enroll their office in the Green Office program. Offices from UW's Seattle, Tacoma and Bothell campuses, as well as off-campus locations, are all eligible to participate. For this program, "office" has a flexible definition. An office may be an individual, a small group, or an entire department. A smaller office can encourage other offices within a larger department to become certified.
