UW recognized as a sustainability leader

The University of Washington was recognized among the national leaders in higher education sustainability by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

AASHE’s 2023 Sustainable Campus Index recognizes the UW’s Seattle campus as a top performer in Purchasing (No. 2 overall) and Transportation (No. 9). UW Bothell shared the top overall spot for Grounds with Cascadia College (the two schools share the Bothell campus), and was tied for No. 2 overall in the Water category.

UW earns sustainability recognition

The University of Washington has recently been recognized as a national leader for its sustainability performance, particularly in the areas of purchasing and transportation.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) 2022 Sustainable Campus Index named the UW second overall, and first among doctoral universities, for sustainable purchasing. The UW was also ninth overall, and fourth among U.S. schools, for sustainable transportation.

Call for submissions: Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education

Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education 2021

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) has a call for proposals for the upcoming virtual Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education (GCSHE) which will be held virtually on October 12-14, 2021. 

Proposals for live, on-demand or networking conference sessions are due on March 26, 2021. See the full information and details on the AASHE site.

AASHE meeting connects UW with higher ed sustainability leaders

UW Associate Vice President Ruth Johnston traveled to Stanford University this spring to discuss strategic priorities and partnerships with fellow higher education sustainability leaders.

Johnston serves on the board of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), which for the past 10 years has been strengthening campus sustainability efforts and making sustainable practices the norm within higher education.
