Trash-In volunteers

Join UW Recycling for the upcoming 2019 Trash-In held on Red Square Friday, April 19, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  During this time, volunteers (a healthy mix of students, staff, and faculty) can sign up for shifts lasting one hour to sort waste collected from buildings on campus. The idea behind the event is to figure out how much compostable and recyclable material we throw away each day which could be diverted from going into a landfill.  At the end of the shift, volunteers will have a better grasp on what materials are recyclable and compostable and have an eye opening glimpse on the...

The UW Athletics Green Team is looking for a student to serve as a Sustainability Intern for the 2019-2020 school year, starting in July. Film series posters

The UW Combined Fund Drive and UW Tower Green Team are partnering to host a monthly sustainability film series starting March 14. Each screening will feature a local environmental nonprofit who will lead a post-screening discussion. All screenings start at 12 p.m. in the UW Tower Auditorium and are free and open to all UW faculty, staff and students. Popcorn will be sold for $1 a bag to benefit the chosen nonprofit.

Show us how you Engage for Earth. The Earth Day 2019 event is focused on raising awareness of environmental justice and engaging with diverse forms of sustainability. The Earth Day planning committee is hosting a design contest open to all UW students, faculty, staff, and alumni which may inspire this year's Earth Day promotional materials. Together we can tackle climate change. What would it take to turn the tide?

All Washington state high school and undergraduate students can answer that question with a short film for a chance at the $4,000 prize. The UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS) and EarthLab want your submissions of films that are two-minutes or less by the April 7, 2019 deadline.

Films can be submitted by individuals or teams, and can take on any genre. The judge's pick wins $4,000 and the people's choice earns a $2,500 prize.
