The University of Washington’s College of the Built Environment, College of Engineering, College of the Environment and UW Tacoma Urban Studies have signed the Educators Commitment on Resilient Design.

This fall, the Campus Food Pantry is working to help address food insecurity in the UW community.

The food pantry will be open the first Tuesday of every month - starting next Tuesday, Oct. 4 - in HUB 214 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., as well as at the Ethnic Cultural Center on Oct. 19 and Nov. 16 from 6-8 p.m. The food pantry offers food and toiletries to any Husky looking for nutritional support. All that is needed to utilize the pantry is a Husky card.

The UW Nutritional Sciences Program's fall seminar series explores the connections between climate change, nutrition and population health.

Lectures are held every Thursday during the fall from 12:30-1:20 p.m. in the Alder Commons Auditorium. Topics include the health risks of climate change, the risks climate change presents to health and food security, and what climate change means for the global food system.

A group of UW students, working with the UW Sustainability office, created a short video with animation explaining the research of Dr. Daniel Kirschen of the UW's Clean Energy Institute, who works on using batteries to address the challenges of incorporating renewable energy into the grid. Enjoy!

The Environmental Innovation Practicum is looking for students from all disciplines across campus to help solve the world's environmental and cleantech challenges! Each weekly seminar will inspire you to make an impact as experts discuss the circular economy, water innovation, land use, greening the built environment, and more! In teams, you’ll put inspiration to action by identifying an environmental problem and presenting your solution to the class. No prerequisites.

Join UW Sustainability for an exciting Green Bag presentation with Skanska Construction's Director of Sustainability Stacy Smedley. She will talk about Skanska's current sustainability initiatives and LEED standards for construction, as well as highlighting some of their current projects at UW.

The talk will be held in Parrington Hall, Room 309, on Friday, September 16th from 11 a.m. to noon. Bring your lunch and join the discussion!

It’s no secret that waste is a big problem in some areas of the UW Greek Community, as well as other areas north of campus. This problem turns from big to BIG in the month before school starts (late August and early September) and the month after school ends (June). Students are on the move, transitioning between houses, apartments, dorms, etc. and in the process a lot of waste gets left behind or abandoned on the street as somebody else’s problem.

Help UW Athletics make a difference during football season! Sign up to be a football sustainability volunteer for the 2016 season. You will play a big role in helping UW reach our stadium waste diversion goal of 80%. 

Volunteers will be stationed around the stadium during the first half and at halftime, letting people know how to recycle and compost properly as well as helping fans choose the best option for their trash. After halftime you are free to watch the rest of the game.
