It’s no secret that waste is a big problem in some areas of the UW Greek Community, as well as other areas north of campus. This problem turns from big to BIG in the month before school starts (late August and early September) and the month after school ends (June). Students are on the move, transitioning between houses, apartments, dorms, etc. and in the process a lot of waste gets left behind or abandoned on the street as somebody else’s problem.

Help UW Athletics make a difference during football season! Sign up to be a football sustainability volunteer for the 2016 season. You will play a big role in helping UW reach our stadium waste diversion goal of 80%. 

Volunteers will be stationed around the stadium during the first half and at halftime, letting people know how to recycle and compost properly as well as helping fans choose the best option for their trash. After halftime you are free to watch the rest of the game.

The University of Washington is installing solar panels on three residence halls in partnership with Seattle City Light's Green Up program to support research on clean energy and smart grid technology.

It’s time to submit your proposals for the 2017 Washington Higher Education Sustainability Conference. Students, faculty and staff will gather from across the region to spark a deep conversation of how to better advance sustainability at their respective institutions.

Looking to learn more about green building, sustainability, equity issues, and more? The Built Green Conference at Cascadia College on September 13th is looking for student volunteers, who will recieve a complementary ticket to the event, the opportunity to attend educational sessions, lunch, and the opportunity to network with other green building professionals.

Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center have each received the 2016 Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth. The Top 25 Award recognizes healthcare facilities across the country that exemplify environmental excellence and are setting the highest standards for environmental practices in healthcare.

This fall, the Environmental Science & Resource Management program is offering ESRM 320: "Sustainable Markets," an online class open to all students.

The course introduces business concepts relating to marketing, human resource management, small businesses and entrepreneurship, and economics in the context of environmental resource management.

BSE 150: The Bioresource Science and Engineering (BSE) program has an introductory seminar every fall to introduce students to the science and technology of bio resources, including paper. Faculty, advisers, and guest lectures present on topics throughout the quarter. BSE 150 will be offered on Tuesdays from 2:30-3:20 p.m.

This fall's course "Sustainability: Personal Choices, Broad Impacts" (ENVIR 239) will present frameworks of sustainability via exploration of key pillars of sustainability, the history of sustainability movements, and sustainability in action. Students examine personal and global aspects of sustainability through issues such as smart growth, environmental and natural building, green business and energy, ecotourism, and international policy
