The College of the Environment's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team at University of Washington (UW) will celebrate its Third Environmental Justice Conference on April 7, 2020 in Alder Hall. This conference emerges from an ongoing conversation across UW departments and community leaders regarding how to foster equitable collaborations with local and global communities.

The UW Food Pantry has an opening for a student Fresh Food and Sustainability Intern. The focus of this position is on food gleaning/recapture from the UW Farm and on-campus dining locations for redistribution at the UW Food Pantry. RecycleMania starts this week at the University of Washington! For the eighth year, the UW will be participating in the friendly recycling competition.
As part of RecycleMania, UW Recycling will be organizing events and activities to promote waste reduction with campus partners.

Communities both local and worldwide are taking various approaches to practicing sustainability. This week, there are opportunities to learn about how the environment and climate change impact different groups. Sit in on an event about children's health, New York's role in maintaining green cities, or the significance of the local kokanee salmon.
What's plastic film you ask? Plastic film can be a variety of materials including shrink-wrap, bubble wrap and shopping bags.
Effective January 1 2020, UW's plastic film recycling process has changed. Plastic film is no longer accepted in regular recycling bins and will need to be dropped off at specific locations to be recycled.
What do you think of when you hear the word soil? When assistant professor Brittany Johnson asks students this question at the start of her Introductory Soils course, words like "dirty," "life," "brown," and "nutrients" come to mind. But soil is much more complex than that, Johnson says.
