Really fascinating Faculty Friday post today by Quinn Russel Brown on a class being tought by Anu Taranath, a senior lecturer in Comparative History of Ideas and English about how to talk about power and privilege on campuses. Getting comfortable about talking about uncomfortable things is a key element of the course and Taranath has multiple ways in which she facilitates the conversation.

The Washington Higher Education Sustainability Coalition (WAHESC) invites you to learn about cutting edge sustainability initiatives on campuses around Washington State in this first ever state-wide broadcast. The purpose of this event is to inspire, engage, and connect our regional higher education institutions during Earth Week. The broadcast on April 20th from 4:00pm-5:00pm will feature eight short presentations from staff and student sustainability advocates representing these projects:
The Husky Leadership Initiative continues their Leadership Firesides series with Lieutenant General Stephen Lanza, commander of Joint Base Lewis-McChord's (JBLM) I Corps. JBLM has been a sustainability leader in the Puget Sound region for many years along with other miliatary bases.
The 10th Annual Allen L. Edwards Psychology Lectures presents The Psychological Science of Inequity and Inequality. These free lectures discuss the latest research on factors affecting quality of life for underrepresented and non-majority individuals. As part of this popular series, notable experts from across the nation come to the University of Washington to co-present with faculty from the UW Department of Psychology.

V'Ella Warren, Senior Vice President of UW Finance & Facilities and Board of Regents Treasurer, was recently nominated in the Sustainability Hero category for the 2015 Sustainable Seattle Leadership Awards. Warren has been a champion, advocate, and sponsor of social responsbility cross campus for many years.

UW computer science doctoral student Justin Bare recently partnered with local nonprofit Carbon Washinton to create an online tool to give Washington residents the ability to calculate how a state carbon tax swap proposed by the Carbon Washington might impact them financially. The Carbon Tax Swap Caclulator is a neutral, unbiased tool that gives users access to unique information and sheds light on how the tax swap proposal might impact them personally.
A new exhibit at the Nordic Heritage Museum titled Imaging the Acrtic showcases a collaboration between UW polar researcher Kristin Laidre and watercolor artist Maria Coryell-Martin as a unique way to communicate climate science.
