Campus Race to Zero Waste (CRZW) starts this week at the University of Washington! For the tenth year, the UW will be participating in the friendly recycling and waste reduction competition between colleges and universities. As part of CRZW, UW Recycling is organizing a trivia week and a trash art contest.

Categories include literature, 2D and 3D art. Participants must create an art piece from items normally thought of as trash or a literary piece about waste. Art pieces should express feelings or ideas about waste, or a sustainability topic that relates to waste. This contest is open to all UW students, faculty and staff.

Submissions are due March 11, 2022 at 4 p.m. PST. Winners for each category will receive $100 or $50 gift cards.

There are two volunteer opportunities at the Center for Urban Horticulture this Monday, January 17, as part of the MLK Day of Service. Anyone with proof of vaccination can volunteer with the UW Farm from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. UW students also have the chance to volunteer with the Society for Ecological Restoration's Native Plant Nursery from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.

The Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation is now soliciting applications for scholarships which will be awarded for the 2022-2023 school year.

The foundation expects to award at least eight scholarships for the upcoming year, available to students at all levels (undergraduate and graduate) who are studying renewable energy in any sense. Each scholarship is a cash award of $2000 with no strings attached. Applications can be submitted until Februrary 15.
