Sustainability Stories: Reducing Waste at the UW

Allen Auditorium
UW Recycling and UW Surplus will kick off the Sustainability Stories series with a talk about keeping our waste out of the landfill. These presentations will take place every other Thursday at noon in the Allen Auditorium, featuring faculty, staff and students working for sustainability at UW. These talks are part of the UW's recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2020.
Meet and Greet with Dubs at UW Surplus
Tuesday, January 14, 12 - 12:30 p.m.
Plant Services Building, 4515 25th Ave NE
Join Dubs II for a meet and greet at UW Surplus! The beloved Husky Mascot will be open for petting and photos in the Plant Services Building. After his short appearance, the UW Surplus store will remain open until 6 p.m. for anyone to buy used items from UW departments and facilities.
Oceans and Climate: Mitigating Impacts on our Aquatic Food Systems

Dr. Jan Newton from the College of the Environment will present on the impact of climate change on food systems within the ocean. This seminar is the second in the Food Systems in the Age of Climate Change seminar series co-hosted by the Nutritional Sciences Program and Center for Health and the Global Environment.

This week, Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz will present a seminar about her role in managing the local waters and forests. This event is hosted by the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences.
Parks vs. People: An Unresolved Conflict in Nepal

How does conservation affect historically marginalized communities? Writer Shradha Ghale is giving a lecture about the loss of biodiversity in the protected areas of Nepal, where many citizens depend on natural resources. Learn more about the event here.
CBE Film Series: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Friday, January 17, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Gould Hall 322
The Cities on Screens interdisciplinary seminar this winter quarter is exploring the theme of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. These films will explore how people create and navigate built environments in the context of urban travel. The College of Built Environments will offer this event every Friday of winter quarter, and screenings are open to all.
