The Washington State Department of Ecology has partnered with Washington Sea Grant to create the new Washington Applied Sustainability Internship (WASI) program. This is a paid 10-week internship for college students to work with a business on pollution prevention and sustainability projects.
The Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) is now hiring for two undergraduate student positions: Outreach Coordinator and Project Development Specialist. Both positions are open to current UW students. The roles are expected to work 15 to 19.5 hours a week during the academic year and summer, and pay $20/hour.
Tatiana Brown (she/hers) has recently started her role as the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) coordinator. Tatiana is a concurrent MPA/MPH student at the Evans School of Public Policy and Health Systems and Population Health School of Public Health. Tatiana is focused on the intersection of leading health policy and creating health interventions in collaboration with marginalized communities in urban spaces.
There are two volunteer opportunities at the Center for Urban Horticulture this Monday, January 17, as part of the MLK Day of Service. Anyone with proof of vaccination can volunteer with the UW Farm from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. UW students also have the chance to volunteer with the Society for Ecological Restoration's Native Plant Nursery from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
The Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation is now soliciting applications for scholarships which will be awarded for the 2022-2023 school year.
The foundation expects to award at least eight scholarships for the upcoming year, available to students at all levels (undergraduate and graduate) who are studying renewable energy in any sense. Each scholarship is a cash award of $2000 with no strings attached. Applications can be submitted until Februrary 15.

As part of National Campus Sustainability Month earlier this quarter, representatives from all three UW campuses came together to discuss topics around food systems and our campus resources.
The Post-Landfill Action Network’s Annual Students for Zero Waste (SZW) Conference will be held virtually from November 5-7, 2021. As a member school, all UW students can attend this conference for free. To register for free, sign up on PLAN's website with your uw.edu email address, and then go to the Member Hub.
Global Renewables Infrastructure Development (GRID) is a registered student organization that works on designing, optimizing, installing, financing and assessing the societal impacts of renewable energy systems, with a specific focus on projects that advance equitable access to electricity. GRID has an interdisciplinary mix of graduate and undergraduate students with backgrounds in engineering, natural sciences, social sciences and more.
Francis Abugbilla is a Ph.D. candidate in international studies in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington. He is currently a Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation 2021 Emerging Scholar and a Visiting Researcher at the German Development Institute in Bonn, Germany. His dissertation research is on conflicts and peacebuilding in post-conflict societies. He researches sustainable conflict resolution mechanisms in Africa.
