Join us for the upcoming Green Certification Workshop Wednesday on Sept. 6 from 1:30 - 2 p.m. in Gerberding Hall room G26 (one floor down from the Red Square entrance).
This month's Green Certification Workshop Wednesday will by July 12 at noon, in Gerberding Hall room G26. These Workshop Wednesdays are monthly open presentation and discussion sessions on the Green Office and Green Lab certifications.
UW Sustainability will hold Green Certification workshops the first Wednesday of each month, starting June 7th at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join to learn more about our Green Office and Green Laboratory certification programs - we'll have a brief presentation, answer questions about the certification application, walk through available resources to help make your workplace more sustainable, and provide support for filling out the application.

Update: UW Recycling and UW Sustainability have decided not to continue a pilot program to recycle nitrile lab gloves. The pilot program, which took place over the course of spring quarter of 2016 in nine labs in the Molecular Engineering and Sciences (MolES) department and Materials Science and Engineering department, reduced the proportion of lab waste that gloves made up from an average of 23% to 7%.

For well over 100 years, carpet has been the single most popular choice for American floors, but not without its drawbacks. Producing carpet requires the use of a host of harmful chemicals, and each year landfills acquire millions of tons of carpet that will take thousands of years to decompose.
Join UW Sustainability for a Green Bag lunch talk on paper reduction and Green Offices with Lily Gebrenegus, UW Grant and Contract Accounting associate director, and Chris Toman, UW Sustainability Program Specialist, on June 30 from noon to 1 p.m. in HUB 337.

There are many Green Laboratories at the University of Washington who practice sustainability every day. The Green Lab Certification program was created to recognize these labs, while providing resources for labs who want to improve their practices. This spring, the Green Lab program gave awards to those certified labs which showed outstanding performance even among the select group of certified Green Labs.
