It's time for the annual One Thing Challenge!
The One Thing Challenge is a competition between residence hall students at UW and Washington State University to see which campus is committed to being the greenest. The school with the most participants will gain bragging rights and the ceremonial awarding of the One Thing Cup - a trophy made from recycled materials.
The Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) is hosting an evening of interdisciplinary discussion and project brainstorming. CSF representatives will share information on the fund, and how students can apply for grants to make their environmental ideas a reality on campus, as well as brainstorming ideas for projects. The goal of the event is to engage the campus community in brainstorming sustainability improvements we want to see at UW, and moreover, to empower students to make an impact by applying for a grant and starting their own project!
Rethinking Prosperity, a civic engagement project of UW's Center for Communication and Civic Engagement, is hosting a screening of This Changes Everything! on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 5:30 in Communications 120.
Update: The application deadline for the RecycleMania planning committee has been extended to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. To apply, please send the following to Jessica Lisiewski at recycle@uw.edu with "RecycleMania Committee" in the subject title, and in the email include your name, phone number, email, academic program, school year and a brief written statement (200 words or less) explaining why you are interested in being a member of the committee and what skills, experience, and/or passions you plan to bring to the committee.
The UW's ENVIR 480: Sustainability Studio class in the Program on the Environment presents students with a sustainability topic which they engage in as part of an experiential learning course. The topics change each quarter - this spring, the students researched the UW's environmental history. This is part of a series of posts by the students on some of the information they uncovered.

The University of Washington and Seattle City Light have created a partnership through City Light’s Green Up program to advance renewable energy on campus and beyond.
The two-and-a-half year partnership will provide funding for renewable energy work at UW, allowing the university to develop renewable energy projects, produce educational outreach materials, and create opportunities for faculty and student collaboration.

EPA is calling for entries in its fourth annual Campus RainWorks Challenge, a green infrastructure design competition for undergraduate and graduate students.
Student teams, working with a faculty advisor, will submit design boards, a project narrative, and a letter of support describing a proposed green infrastructure project for a location on their campuses. This year student teams will be encouraged to incorporate climate resiliency into their stormwater management designs.
