The SustainableUW Festival kicks off day four with volunteering opportunities and a wide variety of seminars and discussions to choose from, along with a careers event and poster session at Odegaard Library in the afternoon.
Stop by Mercer Court and volunteer with the UW Farm from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Or head down to Harborview Medical Center at noon and hear King County’s Tom Watson discuss ways to be more sustainable at home.
At the Sustainability careers meet and greet join the discussion on sustainability careers with representatives from the business, non-profit and government sectors, followed by a meet and greet for students to talk with the speakers. Odegaard ALC 136 at 3:30 p.m. After the careers discussion, stick around for the student sustainability project poster session at 5 p.m. on the first floor of Odegaard Library, highlighting projects funded by the Campus Sustainability Fund and Green Seed Fund.
Also at 5 p.m., the ASUW Student Food Cooperative is giving a Fall Cooking Demonstration in the Local Point Test Kitchen at Lander Hall.
At 12:30 p.m., head over to Magnuson Health Sciences Center T-435 for the Environmental Health Seminar and learn how developmental methylmercury exposure leads to transgenerational adult neurobehavioral defects.
The Husky Highlight: Energy and Innovation, featuring researchers at the Molecular Engineering & Sciences Institute and Clean Energy Institute, is closed due to registrations already being at capacity, but you can learn more about our energy future at the Clean Energy Seminar: Development of Next-Generation Batteries for Plug-in Electric Vehicles with Peter Faguy of the U.S. Department of Energy at 4 p.m. in Bagley hall.
UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences hosts its "Why did the salmon cross the road? Aquatic pollution and solutions" seminar at 4:00 p.m. in Fishery Sciences 102.
The evening ends with "The Wild Edge - Florian Schulz" seminar at 7 p.m. in Kane 220. Acclaimed photographer Florian Schulz shares his epic photographic journey from Baja California to the Beaufort Sea. Along the way, you'll see gray whales, manta rays, flocks of sea birds, spirit bears, and so much more.
