UW labs are proud to be national leaders in sustainability. Whether it’s diverting waste or cutting down on energy use, sustainability is a way of life for many lab members.

Ever since the Green Laboratory Certification program was implemented in the spring of 2013, tracking sustainability in UW labs has never been easier or more effective. By the end of the 2014-2015 school year, 68 labs were certified. Based on their sustainable activities and environmental impact, each lab received a rating of bronze, silver, or gold.

Applying is simple. Lab members can access the application online and follow the instructions outlined. Questions in the application cover the steps your lab is already taking to be green and where you can improve. Several action-based categories are listed, ranging from energy, chemical and water usage, to communication, waste, and work-related travel.

The video above has more details on how to apply and the many benefits of certification.

Go green, UW labs!
