May is Bike Month, and UW Transportation Services wants to give you the tools to be a better-informed cyclist on the road. Whether you're looking to start riding for the first time, are looking for some extra pointers on how to ride in traffic, or want to learn how to fix your own flat tires, there's a class for you this month.

It starts this Wednesday, May 6, with "Bike Commuting 101: Getting Started." The guest instructor from Cascade Bicycle Club will walk you through how to select a bike, find a comfortable route and stay safe as you get introduced to the world of biking.

On May 14, learn more about how to navigate your commute with "Bike Commuting 102: Rules of the Road." You'll learn what your responsibilities are in traffic, and how to avoid potential conflicts with other people in vehicles or on foot.

The third class in the series on May 19 gives some practical advice. "Bike Commuting 103: Fix Your Own Flat Tire" will teach you to, well, fix a flat tire. Knowing what to do if you spring a leak will allow you to hit the road with more confidence and keep you on the go.

If all that isn't enough, on May 28 you can learn the "Basics of Bike Touring and Camping," giving you the information you need to take your bike on an outdoor adventure.

All classes start at noon in HUB 337 and are free for the UW community. Attending any of these Bike Month classes will also get you a free Bicycle Benefits sticker, giving you discounts at local businesses, and a chance to win $45 in bike repair services at the ASUW bike shop. Register for any of the classes by following the links above, or go here and click on your desired class to sign up.
