Madeline Zschiesche

My name is Madeline Zschiesche, and I am a junior at the University of Washington double majoring in Law, Societies, and Justice and Political Science. I am ecstatic to be joining the UW Sustainability Team as the Green Certification Program Coordinator. I admire the work being done here at UW Sustainability, and am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a hard working team. My interest in sustainability is paired with a drive for inclusivity and a goal of environmental work that includes everyone here at the UW and beyond.

My Intern Experience: Making Recycling Equitable and Accessible in the Puget Sound

This guest post is by Gabrielle Coeuille. Gabrielle is a senior at the University of Washington, majoring in International Studies with a focus on Environmental Studies at the Jackson School. She hopes to explore international waste management systems after graduation. 

This summer I had the opportunity to intern with the Waste Management Recycle Corps – an award-winning program that puts college students through an intensive hands-on job training and then deploys them to lead recycling education and outreach in communities across Puget Sound.

Hello! My name is Christina, and I am the new UW Sustainability Projects Assistant. I'll be going into my sophomore year at UW this fall, and I am pursuing a double-degree in Environmental Studies and Environmental Science & Terrestrial Resource Management. I'm also the Membership & Service-Learning Coordinator for EcoReps, so I can answer any EcoReps related questions! I enjoy hiking, photography, and taking care of plants.

Hello! My name is Angelica Sagun and I am currently a senior majoring in Public Health and minoring in Diversity. My interests involve working out and running, traveling, and trying new food with family and friends! Engaging in sustainable practices every day is something I have become increasingly passionate about through the education I have received at the UW. We're fortunate to be at a University that cares about sustainability and it's important to remain conscious about our actions and decisions and the potential impacts it has on the environment as well as on human health.

Meet our new Campus Sustainability Plan Intern Christoph Strouse

Christoph Strouse is working with our office helping with sustainability reporting and strategic planning. Christoph is studying Urban Planning and Public Policy to understand how cities can become innovative systems for transitioning toward a more equitable and sustainable society. He’s learning how campus sustainability master planning can be applied to district level community planning centered around public transportation and affordable housing.

Meet Our New Communications Intern Jayna Milan

Hey there!

My name’s Jayna Milan and I’ll be helping out the sustainability team as the Communication Intern for this school year! I was born in Malaysia and grew up in Thailand at an international school, and am now a junior studying business with an focus in marketing. I’m incredibly excited to join the team and have the opportunity to highlight student projects across campus and be part of a community that not only cares about the environment, but will work hard to include everyone in the conversation.

Hello! I'm Drue Johnson, a junior majoring in Communications and minoring in English. I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work at UW Sustainability because the Student Program Assistant position allows me to be a social representative of the office. In addition, I get the chance to get experience writing blog posts, social media posts, and to work on my interpersonal communications skills.
