Sustainability Stories: Greening Athletics

Allen Library Auditorium
Learn about the eco-friendly practices in the UW Athletics department in a talk by Karen Baebler, the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Operations. This seminar is part of the Sustainability Stories @ UW series, hosted by UW Sustainability. These talks highlighting sustainability efforts happening across the University of Washington, are held every other Thursday at 12 p.m. in Allen Auditorium.
Commute 101 Fair
Tuesday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House
Explore your many commute options available to you at the Commute 101 Fair, hosted by UW Transportation Services. Groups like King County Metro and Sound Transit will be there to tell you more about the different travel resources available, like biking or vanpooling. This free event is open to all UW students, staff, and faculty, and no registration is required.
Get Caught Green Handed!
Wednesday, Feb. 12, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Local Point in Lander Hall
Earn rewards for your recycling chops during lunch at Local Point. UW Recycling and SEED (Students Expressing Environmental Dedication) will give small prizes to those who sort their waste correctly. Participating in this event means you're helping UW in the annual RecycleMania challenge, which is a friendly competition between colleges across the continent to achieve the highest waste diversion.
Envisioning Better Cities: A Global Tour of Good Ideas

Patricia Chase and Nancy K. Rivenburgh, the authors of "Envisioning Better Cities: A Global Tour of Good Ideas," will have a conversation about their book on Wednesday evening. The book takes readers on an international tour of useful, feasible, and novel ideas for making cities more livable and sustainable. Hear about examples of what people are doing from cities of all sizes to tackle the economic, social and environmental challenges their communities face.

View the short film "Composting and the Waste Stream," and hear from Cedar Grove about how our waste is composted, followed by a Q&A session.
Environmental Journalism Panel

John M. Wallace Hall Commons
A group of four environmental reporters across different publications will present their experiences and strategies for covering stories about the environment. This session is part of the Environmental Communications Panel hosted by the Program on the Environment.
