Throughout October, be sure and use your reusable mug for coffee on campus. Not only will it cut consumption and waste - you'll also help UW move the national leaderboard!

During the month of October, the University of Washington is part of the national "Kill the Cup" University Challenge, a campaign to reduce waste from disposable coffee cups by promoting reusable cups. The schools which have the highest rate of reusable cup use and social awareness will earn grants for sustainability projects on campus.

If you'd like to have a hand in determining the future development of the University of Washington campus, come out to the Campus Master Plan public meetings Oct. 14 and 15.

The public is invited to share ideas and comments on the next Campus Master Plan, and to comment on the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will be prepared to analyze potential environmental impacts of the plan. Your input will play a pivotal role in helping us shape the future of the Seattle Campus.

The University of Washington and Seattle City Light have created a partnership through City Light’s Green Up program to advance renewable energy on campus and beyond.

The two-and-a-half year partnership will provide funding for renewable energy work at UW, allowing the university to develop renewable energy projects, produce educational outreach materials, and create opportunities for faculty and student collaboration.

For every home football game, UW Transportation Services offer a free bike valet service, allowing you to easily pedal to and from Husky Stadium without worrying about your ride during the game.

The free bike parking is located on Rainer Vista at Stevens Way, just off the Burke-Gilman Trail. You can drop off your bike starting three hours before kickoff and Transportation Services staff will watch it during the game. The need to conserve water has been readily apparent this summer, as water levels in Washington have dropped enough for the City of Seattle to call on residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce water consumption by 10 percent. The University of Washington supports this effort, and in today's look at the Sustainability Dashboard you can see how the UW has been reducing water consumption for years.
