CSR Thursdays is a student-authored blog post series in which we share information about the corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts underway by the many and diverse suppliers and vendors of the UW. Look no further to start gaining an understanding on what businesses that provide products often purchased by students, faculty, and staff are doing to promote environmental sustainability! 

This week’s company: Keeney's Office Supply

Keeney's office supply is a local state certified woman-owned business (WBE) and a zero-waste facility. Over the past three years, they have managed to reduced their waste to the landfill by 97 percent. This reduction was a result of company-wide recycling and composting. Items include paper, cardboard, packing material, Styrofoam, pens, markers, CFL light bulbs, wooden pallets, toner cartridges and food scraps. Additionally, their are a monthly contriubter to the Green Power buying program with Puget Sound Energy. This effort has helped avoid the release of 104,993 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions into the air, providing environmental benefits equivalent to planting 1,221 trees. Keeneys also has a green office program to help businesses purchase sustainable products.
