It's the opening day of the SustainableUW Festival!

UW Sustainability, the Campus Sustainability Fund and EcoReps are kicking off the festival with an open house - including Free Pizza - from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Find us in the basement of Gerberding Hall, room B40 (enter on the south side of the building across from Johnson Hall and go down the stairs). We'll be here to let you know about sustainability efforts and opportunities on campus, and you can talk with students from the Campus Sustainability Fund regarding projects they've funded and how you can apply to make your own idea a reality; or learn more about how EcoReps are providing a helping hand for sustainability on campus and how to get involved.

Also on Monday:

The UW Farm has a workshop on inventive ways to to use autumn produce at the Farm's Mercer Court Clubhouse, 11 a.m. In addition to the demonstrations, there will be a "take home" salad station and light snacks. Unfortunately, this event has been canceled.

At UW Tacoma, Joel Baker of the Center for Urban Waters will give a talk, "What's in Puget Sound? A chemical investigation of our environment," at UW Tacoma's Science Building, room 309, at 12:25 p.m.

The Wildlife Science Seminar topic of the week is "Interactions between wolves and deer in a managed landscape in Washington." Kane Hall 120 at 3:30 p.m.

In the evening, the Washington Park Arboretum is the site for the lecture "Beetles save needles" on how scientists and forest managers are using beetles native to the PNW in an effort to save hemlock forests in the Eastern U.S. Free, but a $5 donation at the door is appreciated. 7 p.m.
