2017 Husky Green Award nominees announced

The 2017 Husky Green Award nominees include 19 individuals and seven groups from across the University of Washington who have shown a dedication to sustainability through their actions.

The Husky Green Awards are the only award program at the University of Washington which recognize a commitment to sustainability. The nominations are  made by students, faculty and staff to honor the top environmental leaders at all UW campuses.

UWMC and Harborview earn Green awards

Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center were named as two of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in America by Becker’s Hospital Review, the leading source of cutting-edge business and legal information for healthcare industry leaders. Hospitals on the list are fully committed to promoting the healing and well-being of patients, employees, visitors, the neighborhood, and the broader community through environmentally sustainable practices.

UW joins commitment on resilient design

The University of Washington’s College of the Built Environment, College of Engineering, College of the Environment and UW Tacoma Urban Studies have signed the Educators Commitment on Resilient Design. The White House invited schools of engineering, architecture, urban planning, construction, and other design disciplines to sign on to the effort, pledging to train and inspire students who will build resilience to natural hazards and the impacts of climate change.

UW Medicine hospitals win environmental awards

Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center have received the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth. The Top 25 Award recognizes healthcare facilities across the country that exemplify environmental excellence and are setting the highest standards for environmental practices in healthcare. This is the tenth consecutive year for UW Medical Center to receive the top award and the fifth consecutive year for Harborview.

2016 Husky Green Award winners

The University of Washington has named the seven winners of the 2016 Husky Green Awards as part of the Earth Week celebrations.

This year's winners include the first two-time winner of the award, sophomore Tali Haller, along with Earth Club president Aaron Tam; student-athlete Melanie Wade; UW Bothell lecturer Rebeca Rivera; Confronting Climate Change (formerly DivestUW), a student organization; the Society for Ecological Restoration's Native Plant Nursery; and Grounds Management's Salvage Wood Program.

The 2016 Husky Green Award nominations are in, with 16 individuals and nine campus groups under consideration.

The Husky Green Awards are the only award program at the University of Washington which recognize a commitment to sustainability. The nominations are  made by students, faculty and staff to honor the top environmental leaders at all UW campuses.

The awards will be presented in a ceremony on Red Square on April 22 starting at 1 p.m. as part of the UW's Earth Day celebration. Please join us for this annual recognition.
