Here are some highlights from our Sustainability Events calendar for the week of Jan. 19, 2015. If you know of any events which should be added, let us know.

Monday

Tuesday

  • The UW Farm seminar topic for the week is “Soil, Water and Nutrient Management at the UW Student Farm”. (Anderson Hall 223, 8:30 a.m.)
  • The UW Surplus store is open to the public weekly on Tuesdays noon to 6 p.m. Items range from various electronics, office equipment, to furniture. By finding a new home for unwanted items, UW surplus reduces campus waste! (4515 25th Ave NE, 12-6pm). 
  • The Program on Climate Change continues with its lecture series, featuring "Religious Frames for Climate Change". (OSB 252, 3:30 p.m). UPDATE: This lecture has been cancelled and rescheduled for Feb. 24.
  • The University Book Store will be hosting Mitchell Thomashow, author of the "Nine Elements of Campus Sustainability" for a discussion and book signing. (4326 University Way NE, 7 p.m.).

Wednesday

  • SEFS seminar this week will feature Professor Allan Carroll on "Synergies, feedbacks, and tipping points: Mountain pine beetle's rapid range expansion threatens invasion of North American boreal pine forests".  (Anderson Hall 223, 3:30). 

Thursday

  • UW Farm's weekly education series, FarmEd, will be discussing soil tests. A breakfast potluck at 8 a.m. will then be followed by an hour long class at 8:30, and then be concluded by volunteering opportunities at the Farm's greenhouse. (Botany Greenhouse, 8:30 a.m.)
  • The Global Nutrition and Food Justice seminar this week will be on "Global Nutrition: The Double Burden of Disease". (Alder Common, 12:30 p.m.)
  • An info session will be hosted informing students about options for studying marine and freshwater sciences here at UW including representatives from the following programs: Oceanography, Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, Marine Biology, Friday Harbor Labs (FHL), UW-FHL Scientific Diving Program, and the Underdawgs Student Dive Club. (OCB 425, 2:30). 
  • The Bevan Series this week will feature, "The global ocean refuge system: saving marine species from mass extinction". (Fishery Science Auditorium, 4:30)
