Here are some highlights from our Sustainability Events calendar for the week of Jan. 12, 2015. If you know of any events which should be added, let us know.
Monday
- The School of Environmental and Forest Science (SEFS) Wildlife Science Seminar series continues with a talk on non-native insect invasions. (Smith Hall 120, 3:30 p.m.)
- UW Botanic Gardens offers an Introduction to Beekeeping class. Please RSVP online. (Center for Urban Horticulture, 7 p.m.)
Tuesday
- The UW Surplus store is open to the public weekly on Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. Stop by - you never know what you might find. And by finding a new home for unwanted items, UW Surplus helps reduce campus waste! (4515 25th Ave NE, 12-6 p.m.)
Wednesday
- The SEFS seminar series features "Restoration resources in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences" (Anderson Hall 223, 3:30 p.m.)
- Putting a Price on Climate Pollution in Washington State" - an event hosted by Green Evans and Confronting Climate Change, featuring a panel discussion to explore the future of climate policy in the state of Washington. (Kane Hall 210, 5:30 p.m.)
Thursday
- The UW Farm's weekly education series FarmEd this week focuses on soil types and nutrient availability. Every week, FarmEd starts with an 8 a.m. breakfast potluck, then a class at 8:30 a.m. After the class, stick around and volunteer to help at the Farm's greenhouse site. (Botany Greenhouse, 8:30 a.m.)
- "Nosh on Nature: A Conversation on Coffee Conservation." Join for a discussion on the environmental impact of coffee growing in Ethiopia, along with a sampling of specialty coffee from the region supplied by Husky Grind. (Wallace Hall 012, 12:30 p.m.)
- The Bevan Series continues with a lecture on whales, science and scientific whaling in the International Court of Justice. (Fishery Sciences Auditorium, 4:30 p.m.)
- See how the dam removals on the Elwha River affected the area and what it took to make the project happen with a film screening of "Return of the River" at Town Hall. (1119 8th Ave., 7:15 p.m.)
Saturday
- Volunteer with the UW Farm from 10 a.m. - 3p.m. (Center for Urban Horticulture, 10 a.m.)
