Everyone's back on campus for the start of spring quarter, which means there are once again plenty of sustainability-related events happening around campus.
All of these events and more are listed on our Sustainability Events calendar, where you can find the full details for all events and any last-minute additions. Monday
- The Wildlife Science Seminar series kicks off its spring program with Maria Mudd Ruth, author of Rare Bird: Pursing the Mystery of the Marbled Murrelet. She'll be talking about marbled murrelets, a seabird threatened by habitat loss. (3:30 p.m., Kane Hall 120)
- If you're interested in joining the ASUW Student Food Cooperative, or just want to know more about what the group does, stop by their first meeting of the quarter tonight. (5:30 p.m., HUB 131J)
Tuesday
- If you're looking to give some gently-used items a new home, check out the UW Surplus store, which is open to the public every Tuesday afternoon with a fresh batch of items. (12-6 p.m., 4515 25th Ave. NE)
- The UW Farm starts its regular spring volunteer hours Tuesday at the Center for Urban Horticulture location at 2:30 p.m. Later in the day, bring a dish to share and join the farmers for their spring potluck. (6 p.m., Mercer Court)
- Learn how to prevent and fix flat tires on your bike with a free class from the Seattle Department of Transportation and Cascade Bicycle Club. Register by emailing CTRCommuterServices@seattle.gov (5 p.m., HUB 340)
Wednesday
- For another chance at picking up some used items at dirt-cheap prices, stop by the HUB's main information desk for the monthly lost and found sale. (8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., HUB)
- Learn about the health risks of climate change from Department of Global Health Professor Kris Ebi as part of the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences Spring Seminar Series. (3:30 p.m., Anderson 223)
Thursday
- SEFS hosts the 2015 Sustaining Our World Lecture by Molly Steinwald: Human[-]Nature: Care for Our World is Care for Ourselves (6 p.m., Kane 210)
- The 2015 UW Environmental Innovation Challenge is invitation-only, but you can meet the teams competing online, and keep an eye out late Thursday for the announcement of the winners. (1 p.m., Seattle Center Exhibition Hall)
Friday
- Join UW Sustainability and the Whole U for National Walk at Work Day. We'll meet on the north side of Drumheller Fountain at noon for a 45-minute walk in central campus, highlighting some of UW's environmental efforts. Register with the Whole U to participate. Walks at Bothell, Tacoma and Harborview are also available. (noon, Drumheller Fountain)
Saturday
- The UW Botanic Gardens' annual Garden Lovers Book Sale will have lots of used books to help you grow trees, flowers or food. The sale helps funds the purchase of new books for the Elisabeth C. Miller Library. (9 a.m., Center for Urban Horticulture)
