Members of the UW’s Electrical Engineering Department hope to make strides to solve the issue of electronic waste with funding from a Green Seed Fund grant. Awarded $50,433 by the Fund, this group is focused on the sustainability of electronic waste and how to better divert the waste flow to more renewable options.
The 10th Annual Allen L. Edwards Psychology Lectures presents The Psychological Science of Inequity and Inequality. These free lectures discuss the latest research on factors affecting quality of life for underrepresented and non-majority individuals. As part of this popular series, notable experts from across the nation come to the University of Washington to co-present with faculty from the UW Department of Psychology.

A group of UW oceanography students recently spent 10 days aboard UW’s large research vessel, the Thomas G. Thompson, to conduct research for their senior thesis projects. The 24 students traveled to Nootka Sound off the west coast of Vancouver Island and blogged about their daily experiences.

Two different projects from members of the UW community are using crowdfunding to help make sustainable ideas a reality.
A new exhibit at the Nordic Heritage Museum titled Imaging the Acrtic showcases a collaboration between UW polar researcher Kristin Laidre and watercolor artist Maria Coryell-Martin as a unique way to communicate climate science.
UW Research Associate Colleen Burge is quoted in a November 2014 Seattle Times article on the connection between climate change and ocean disease outbreaks in sea life. UW News & Information recently reported on a new NOAA online tool, the IOOS (Integrated Ocean Observing System) Pacific Region Ocean Acidification Data Portal, that helps researchers and the fishing industry track ocean acidification in local waters and the open ocean.
