The Sustainability Office here on campus is developing a Cultural Sustainability Map that illustrates the location of various cultural centers on campus and summarizes some of their main resources. The idea for this map was coined from Portland State University’s Campus Sustainability Tour Map. This map will help inform students of available centers on campus that support culture and value diversity.

Washington State is filled with a rich Native American history and the Department of American Indian Studies (AIS) at the University of Washington is a place that fully recognizes the innumerable resources that this area provides. This department is the heart of American Indian and Indigenous knowledge at UW. Their goal is to nurture Indigenous wellness, political sovereignty, cultural revitalization, and cross-cultural understanding.

Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC) is a “home away from home” for many students at the University of Washington. It’s a place where students can express themselves and their culture through an array of dynamic programs. ECC’s unique atmosphere encourages students to become involved in campus activities and is a hub for campus resources.
