There’s a whole new lineup of sustainability events this week, ranging from discussions on global warming to chickens and worms on urban farms! This Thursday, I will be attending Clean Energy Institute’s seminar on “Case Studies on the U.S. Transition Away from Coal.” Coal has historically accounted for up to 50 percent of electricity generated in the U.S. and has the highest greenhouse gas emission rates. Join Professor Paulina Jaramillo as she discusses the work her research group has done over the last 10 years to understand the climate implications of coal use in the U.S. and how recent regulatory changes may affect the future of the U.S. power system. Expect to see a blog post on Jaramillo’s discussion early next week. The seminar will be in Johnson Hall 175 at 4 p.m.
Tuesday
UW professors Steve Gardiner and Ben Rabinowitz will be presenting “Climate Change and Us: The Ethics of Geo-Engineering” at University Unitarian Church, 6556 35th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115. Lecture begins at 6:45 p.m.
Wednesday:
Environmental Studies 495 is hosting a Farm Lunch Seminar in Wallace Hall 120 at 12:30 p.m. Each week, Dr. Elizabeth Wheat leads discussions on various topics and brings in speakers who are experts on them. This week, the topic is “chickens and worms on the urban homestead.” The seminar is open to all and registration is not required.
Speaker David Butman will be presenting "The Carbon Conundrum for Aquatic Ecosystems: Where Does it all Come From?" in Anderson Hall 223 at 3:30 p.m.. This event is part of the UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences' 2016 Seminar Series.
