The fashion industry has and continues to negatively impact the environment with unsustainable business practices, but innovative and mindful brands are changing these habits. Join us for a panel unlike any other, with speakers from UW Sustainability, Buffalo Exchange, and Girlfriend Collective speaking from expertise and experience in what it means to produce and consume sustainable fashion. This event will relate to everyone living in today's consumer-driven culture!
Nordic Theory of Everything: Anu Partanen

Survey after survey has shown that Nordic countries offer their citizens a higher quality of life than what Americans today are generally able to enjoy. Journalist Anu Partanen joins us to discuss some surprising lessons the United States could learn from the successes of Nordic countries on education, health, gender equality, children’s well-being, and overall happiness. In her book, The Nordic Theory of Everything Partanen examines Nordic nations that have successfully implemented social benefits such as free college and universal health care—all while remaining wealthy, competitive countries.
Water and Politics: Clientelism and Reform in Urban Mexico

Veronica Herrera, an assistant professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut, will be hosting a lecture on her research on how urban communities interact with the government to impact the provision of local public services and confront local environmental hazards. With a regional focus on Latin America, her recent work delves into the rise of advocacy networks and environmental litigation surrounding exposure to toxic contamination in Latin American cities.
