It's a slow week for events on campus as UW concentrates on finals, but there are still a handful of sustainability talks and meetings happening. And if you're looking to get outside and work off any lingering finals stress, the UW Farm is still holding volunteer hours.

Monday

  • The Environmental Stewardship Committee provides recommendations for environmental policies at the UW, and oversees progress towards meeting the goals of the UW Climate Action Plan. The committee's meetings are open to the public, including one this afternoon. (HUB 250, 1 p.m.)
  • Also in the HUB this afternoon, Transportation Services is hosting a public hearing on proposed transportation and parking rates for next year. (HUB 145, 1:30 p.m.)
  • Later, the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences has a seminar from a Future of Ice faculty candidate on the ecology and movements of Arctic deep-water fish, "From the poles to the tropics." (Fishery Sciences 102, 4:30 p.m.)

Tuesday

  • It's time for another weekly UW Surplus public store sale. This time, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, they've hidden leprechauns in the store. Find one, and get a free mystery prize. Check out some of the items available for purchase this week on the UW Surplus site. (4515 25th Ave NE, noon - 6 p.m.)
  • Adam Sobel discusses Hurricane Sandy and how the lessons learned from the event can help inform the discussion about dealing with climate change. (Foege Genome Sciences Auditorium S060, 7:30 p.m.)

Wednesday

  • Help the UW Farm finish off the quarter by volunteering at the Mercer Court location during the day. (Mercer Court, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
  • The UW Botanic Gardens starts a four-class series on sustainable home gardening that is open to the public. Homeowners who want to know how best to create and maintain a sustainable landscape should RSVP online or call 206-685-8033. $150. (Center for Urban Horticulture, 6:30 p.m.)

Friday

  • If you want to get out to the UW Farm one last time before Spring Break, this is your chance. Volunteers are welcome at the Center for Urban Horticulture site in the afternoon. (Center for Urban Horticulture, 3:30-5:30 p.m.)
