Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center have each been selected for the 2014 Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth. The Top 25 Award recognizes health care facilities across the country that exemplify environmental excellence and is setting the highest standards for environmental practices in health care. This is the third consecutive year that HMC has won the top award from Practice Greenhealth and the eighth consecutive year for UWMC to receive the top award.
In addition to the overall award, this year Practice Greenhealth added the Circles of Excellence Award to recognize hospitals for outstanding performance in one specific topic area. There are ten award categories and HMC and UWMC received 5 awards as noted below.
- Harborview Medical Center awards – Chemicals, Greening the OR, Food
- University of Washington Medical Center awards – Water, Green Building
The Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards were presented in Cleveland, Ohio in June at the CleanMed Conference & Exhibition, the premier national environmental conference for leaders in health care sustainability.
