We here at EcoReps hope that your first couple weeks of school have been going excellently! For those of you who have not yet heard, let us give you a little update about where we are right now. This summer we have been hard at work, overhauling our program to change our focus to project development with the aim of making the UW campus more sustainable.
Today we continue our “Meet the Ecoreps” segment with our Marketing and Outreach Coordinator, Alex Huff! Alex is from Woodinville, WA and is a Senior in the Program on the Environment here at UW. He is also a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where he holds the position of philanthropy chair. In his free time Alex enjoys playing music and exploring the vast world around him.
Over the next couple weeks we will be running a segment of blog posts called “Meet the EcoReps,” so you can get to know us a little better!
On May 19-21 EcoReps hosted the annual Green Greek Competition, a contest aimed at educating the Greek Community about sustainability and helping chapters go green. The EcoReps group set up tables on the median of 17th Avenue with activities designed to promote sustainable behaviors within the community. During the three days Greek members could participate in games such as a minute-to-win-it waste sorting challenge, trivia, and recycling basketball.
This spring, EcoReps Coordinator Merrick Calder and Green Greek Coordinator Kiyomi Morris both were given the opportunity to present the Excellence in Environmental Awareness awards to the top green houses in the greek community as part of the 2015 Greek Excellence Awards. The winners were Alpha Delta Pi, Kappa Delta, Sigma Kappa, and Zeta Tau Alpha.
If you're interested in working on sustainability issues around campus, there are several openings right now for current UW students.
Wednesday, Nov. 19, join EcoReps for a clothing exchange available to all UW students!
Have some T-shirts or clothes sitting in your closet that you never wear? Donate them to EcoReps and pick out some new-to-you clothes! Find EcoReps on the 17th Avenue median in front of 45th Street from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
T-shirts, sweatshirts, blouses, pants, shorts, shoes, hats, scarves - come drop off anything you don't want and in return you can have whatever is donated!
Keep in mind:
