The University of Washington is one of four organizations named a 2015 Commute Trip Reduction Champion Platinum Employer by the City of Seattle.

The UW has several programs to make it easier for people to get to campus in ways other than driving along, which benefits the university and the environment. Every day, 82% of the campus population chooses to commute in a greener method than driving solo. This has allowed the UW to save as much as $280 million in parking construction costs and meant Transportation Services has been able to return more than $73 million in land which was used for parking to the Seattle campus, converting it into open space and building sites.

UW's has programs to support walking, biking, transit and other commuting options. These include the U-PASS program, carpool incentives, and carshare and bikeshare membership discounts.
